  • Cub Scout Graduates
    Posted on: 2010-02-22
Arroyo Elementary School and the Boys Scouts of America are proud to announce the latest Arrow of Light receipients. The Arrow of Light is the highest award available to Cub Scouts. Cub Scouts is the elementary school age program of the Boy Scouts of America. The scouts earning this award have enjoyed doing many things for our community. They have picked up trash at the Tustin Sport Park, planted plants at Arroyo Elementary School and weeded a garden. They have packed food for seniors at the Second Harvest Food Bank and sang many times to seniors at two local senior living communities. Flag ceremonies at the Tustin City Council and at Arroyo assemblies were also performed.

In addition to the community service, the scouts have been camping, fishing, hiking, whittling and doing many other activities. Some of them have been scouting over the last five years when they began Cub Scouts in first grade. Congratulations to these fifth graders: Ben Blatchford, Rory Blatchford, Sam Blatchford, Adam Curry, Campbell Gorlinski, Michael Hayes, Aidan Heffner, Collin Pence, Aaron Tang, and Evan Zilkow.

All of these adventurous boys bridged last night to Boys Scouts. Michael Hayes has joined Troop 36 in Irvine and the rest of the scouts have bridge to Troop 235 in Tustin. Congratulations and best wishes on your adventures!

  • Important Changes in the 714 AREA CODE
    Posted on: 2008-08-25
Beginning Saturday, August 23rd everyone dialing numbers from the 714 area code will need to first dial 1 + area code + telephone number. ALL calls MUST be dialed using this new dialing procedure.

    What isn't changing:

Phone numbers are not changing. The price of a call, coverage area, or other rates and services will
not change. What is now a local call now will remain a local call regardless of the number of digits dialed. You can still dial just three digits to reach 911, 211, 311, 411, 511, 611, 711 and 811.

    Why is the Change Necessary?

To ensure a continuing supply of telephone numbers, the 657 area code is being added to the area served by the 714 area code. Since two area codes will now serve the same geographic region, the area code must be used when dialing any telephone number - including calls within the same area code. Beginning September 23, 2008, new telephone lines or services may be assigned numbers with the new 657 area code.
  • Anyone planning a garage sale?

I recently purchased a dozen 'Garage Sale' signs. If anyone is planning a garage sale and would like to use them, I would be more than happy to set them up and take them down for you.

    Daylight Savings Time (DST) Patches

March 11, 2007 is the new start date for Daylight Saving Time, and changes back to standard time on the first Sunday in November. This is a change from the current start/end date that is built into some devices running eKEY.

Smartphones and PDA´s need to be updated so that they reflect the correct time when the new DST changes take effect. Without this change, some applications will indicate an hour off the actual time in locations that observe DST.

Palm and Microsoft are providing patches that will enable devices to correctly handle the change. It is recommended that you download and install these patches before the DST change takes effect.

Palm Devices running Palm OS should visit the link below to determine if their device needs to have the patch applied.

Microsoft Devices running Windows Mobile 5.0 should visit the link below to determine if their device needs to have the patch applied.

The act of installing the patch is the responsibility of the user.
  • Tustin's new site from AmericanTowns.com!
    Posted on: 2007-03-13
Announcing Tustin's new site from AmericanTowns.com, which is all about bringing families, neighbors and friends together to build a great community. AmericanTowns' core mission is to highlight local organizations, public and private, for the important work they do and drive more traffic to their sites through our community calendar, news and links sections.

This new site features everything you need to get the latest, get in touch and get involved - and makes it simpler than ever to better navigate daily life in the community. We're busy building out Tustin's site, but here's a small sample of what users in other communities turn to us for everyday - and what you can expect shortly:

    The community calendar
    School news
    Local movie times
Finding a local real estate agent
Crystal-clear local maps and driving directions
    Updated meeting dates and times
    ...and so much more!

AmericanTowns.com was born out of a real-life need to help one community group work more effectively on a divisive school bond issue (and it worked!). We now serve all of the towns in the county, and we want to empower groups and organizations in Tustin, too. Our goal is simple: to bring together the people, groups and events that make the community, in a new and innovative way.

That's why we've made it a snap for organizations, businesses and residents to submit their own news and events. We're adding exciting content every week, but it's your participation that really makes the site hum. So you'll find lots of easy ways to spread the word about an upcoming meeting, a successful fundraiser, important date and more. And we've got even more tools 'under construction' for local groups and organization that you belong to, including web conferencing, event registration, e-newsletters, and online fundraising.

We hope you'll stop in and see how we're growing Tustin's new site - then join us in making it better. Let's build a great neighborhood, together!
